(Washington) A freight train derailed Tuesday in the state of Kentucky, in the United States, causing a leak of molten sulfur, announced Transport Secretary Sean Duffy, reporting no injuries at this stage.

On Tuesday, a train derailed near the border with Tennessee and “31 cars were involved,” the secretary said on X.
“A train car released molten sulfur into the air,” he added, affirming that no injuries were reported.
According to local radio WEKT, four people were on board the train when the derailment occurred.
Aerial images of the scene show several wagons lying on their sides and goods scattered in a nearby field.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said on X that local authorities had ordered a lockdown for the city of Trenton. It has since been lifted, according to local media.
Todd County Emergency Services Director Ash Groves told WEKT radio that one train car caught fire and another was “damaged.” Both were carrying molten sulfur.
He added that a specialist team was on site.
