I expected a more cautious performance from the Democratic candidate. Confident, firm and relaxed, she was able to score points while letting Donald Trump get tangled up in his lies and fabrications.
If you value verifiable facts, reality, you could disagree with Kamala Harris, but her data was real. Clearly, she made the most of the long days of preparation that preceded the debate.
Whether it is through her mastery of her files, her style or even the smirks directed at Donald Trump, the Democratic candidate has gotten under her opponent’s skin.
What did a visibly upset Trump do? He lied as is his wont, citing numbers or examples that could only come from another dimension. He even said that illegal Haitian immigrants were eating the pets of Springfield, Ohio residents!
Not only does no one in Springfield eat pets, but these immigrants entered the country legally and are helping to fill the labor shortages of many businesses.
Obviously, faced with a solid and prepared opponent, the Republican must have missed Joe Biden badly.
Whether in terms of ideas or image, Donald Trump has been fired like a pancake and I expect him to be unleashed for the next few days, as much against the moderators (who corrected him several times) as against Kamala Harris.
Those who matter
We already know that the race will be tight until the end and that each party is counting on convinced supporters, recently galvanized during the conventions.
It’s not these voters that interest me, it’s those who are still hesitant, the independents and the Republicans who feel betrayed under Donald Trump.
I think after tonight’s debate, many will gravitate toward the Democrat. Kamala Harris did more than just avoid a misstep yesterday, she dominated this debate.
