(Washington) Kamala Harris does not rule out a new candidacy for the White House.
In an interview with the BBC broadcast on Saturday, Mme Harris said she expects a woman to be president in the coming years, and that it “possibly” could be her.
“I’m not finished,” she said.
The former vice president said she hasn’t decided whether she will launch a 2028 presidential campaign, but she rejected the idea that her chances would be slim.
“I have dedicated my entire career to serving, and it is ingrained in my personality. And there are many ways to serve, she argued. I never listened to the polls. »
She recently gave a series of interviews following the September release of her book, 107 Days (107 days). This book reflects on her experience replacing former President Joe Biden after his withdrawal from the race, as the Democratic candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
She ultimately lost to Republican President Donald Trump.
In an interview with the Associated Press (AP) last week, Mr.me Harris, 60, also made clear that running again in 2028 was still a possibility. She said she considered herself a leading figure in the party, particularly to counter Donald Trump and prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.
Questioned on October 17 by the AP about her candidacy plans for 2028, Mme Harris responded: “I haven’t decided yet. Sincerely. I haven’t decided yet. Maybe I will, maybe not. I haven’t decided yet.”
Asked specifically about her desire to continue doing this job, she used the past tense, stating: “It’s a job I wanted to do.” But she stressed that the only way to do that was to run and win.
Furthermore, the Democrats’ political maneuvers for the 2028 presidential election seem to be playing out even earlier than usual.
Several potential candidates are already taking steps to get to know voters in key states, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, term-limited Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and California Rep. Ro Khanna. More than 30 Democratic figures could ultimately participate in the primary.
