Jordan’s exports of medicines during the past year grew by 14.8% compared to 2023, bypassing the challenges that faced the process of supply chains in the region, which were negatively affected by the consequences of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

According to the representative of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Dr. Fadi Al -Atrash, the Kingdom’s exports of medicines during the past year, according to the Department of Statistics, amounted to about 611 million dinars (861 million dollars), compared to 532 million dinars (750 million dollars) in 2023.

Dr. Al -Atrash told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the pharmaceutical industries were the second industrial sector to record growth in the exports during the past year, which confirms the recovery of companies operating in the sector from the difficulties they faced as a result of the conditions of the unstable region.

He added that the companies operating in the sector were also able during the past year to introduce new groups of distinguished and innovative drugs with their productive operations, as well as the growth of demand for medicines in neighboring market countries.

He pointed out that the human pharmaceutical industry in the Kingdom is an essential pillar in the vision of economic modernization, to support the growth of high -value industries exports, as it is a productive sector that constitutes about 5% of the total exports of the total Jordanian industry.

He explained that the human pharmaceutical industry in the Kingdom is one of the oldest industries in the Arab region, where the first factory in the city of Salt was established in 1962, indicating that Jordan exports 80% of its drug production.

He stated that our human pharmaceutical industry represents 85% of the total therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector, and today includes 27 establishments in various regions of the Kingdom, with registered capital of about 280 million dinars (395 million dollars), and provided 7 thousand direct and indirect jobs, females constitute 35% of them.

He pointed out that the exports of Jordanian human drugs enter today to 85 markets around the world, with the introduction of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United States, the Emirates, Algeria and Yemen.

He indicated that the human pharmaceutical industries sector is characterized by a great production capacity of 1.5 billion dinars (2.11 billion dollars) annually.

The vision of the Jordanian economic update also aspires to increase exports by 20.3% annually to nearly 2.1 billion dinars (3 billion dollars) in 2033, from 200 million dinars (282 million dollars), according to the estimates of 2021.
