After an absence of nine years, Jon Stewart was back on Monday evening at the helm of the show The Daily Show. The one who entertained and informed an entire generation on the political issues that divide the country has lost none of his verve and his bite.
He is generally labeled a progressive, but he has never hesitated to vilify Democrats or the left-wing media.
This was the case last night. If he did not spare Trump, he severely chastised Joe Biden.
The Americans can do better!
Stewart’s entire first segment revolved around this question: Can’t we do better than Trump and Biden?
While it is clear that he does not hold Trump in his heart, he refuses to give Biden a free pass, highlighting on numerous occasions his slips of the tongue, his oversights and the bad strategies of those around him.

A tirade seemed to me to be very evocative of the importance of opposing Trump with a strong candidate. Let me translate freely, but Stewart says that when the barbarians are at the gates, we want Conan to defend the fortress and not the old man who loves biscuits.

This last allusion refers to Biden’s presence on TikTok during the Super Bowl. Rather than answering questions in front of journalists as predecessors did, the current president favored a formula that hardly suits him.
As the host said: how do you go on TikTok and look even older!!
I have repeatedly expressed a desire that Biden be here for just one term and fully share Stewart’s concerns. It is precisely because Trump is dangerous that we must ensure that Biden is capable of delivering his full measure for the next four years.
Leaving can still give up
Nine months before the election, is it too late for Biden to give up? Two journalists from the POLITICO site, Charlie Mahtesian and Steven Shepard, offered a scenario Tuesday that would allow him to do so elegantly.
He suggests continuing the primary votes which should end in a landslide victory for Joe Biden over his only rival, Dean Phillips. Once the delegates are in hand, the president could then announce in June that even if he believes in his chances, he has heard the Americans and that he is giving up his place.
Potential candidates could take advantage of the summer to test the waters by accumulating polls, with the final choice taking place during the convention in August.
Candidates from Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer, two personalities that Biden appreciates, could be presented advantageously. Only the thorny problem of removing Kamala Harris would remain, but her starving support would seal her fate.
It is very likely that Biden remains the candidate for 2024, but do not rule out this scenario out of hand just yet. If it seems far-fetched in February, it may be viable in August.
