“It was a Sunday, my family was with us, (…) and we had just eaten pancakes. We were sitting down, we were getting ready to do a puzzle (…) and then the phone rang and it was Joe Biden,” the politician told CNN in an interview. “He then told me how he had decided to proceed. I asked him if he was sure and he said, ‘yes.’ That’s how I found out.”
Even after Joe Biden’s disastrous debate against Donald Trump, the vice president has always clearly shown her support for the president under whom she served Americans. Moreover, she “does not regret at all” what she said about him throughout his term. She reiterates that she believes Joe Biden is an “intelligent” man and “loyal to the American people.”
However, after announcing that he was withdrawing from the race, Joe Biden was very clear about his intentions to support Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate admits. The latter adds, however, that her mind did not immediately turn to her political future, on the contrary.
“(At that moment), my first thoughts weren’t about me to be honest, they were about him,” she said. “I think history will tell a lot of stories about Joe Biden’s presidency. I think it will show that in a lot of ways, (his term) was transformative.”
Even today, she maintains her admiration for the 46th President of the United States.
“The character of the man. (Joe Biden) has been throughout his life and career, including when he was president, a selfless person who put the American people first,” she said.
