An 84-year-old cancer survivor was shot while sitting in her walker, according to the New York Post. Fortunately, she did not succumb to her injuries.
After talking with friends, Althea Lawson was shot in the left arm by a projectile while sitting on the sidewalk. This would have happened at the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Foster Avenue, in New York, on Monday evening, local police told the American media.
The octogenarian said she heard the gunshots and saw people running away, but she did not realize she had been hit. “I didn’t feel it,” she added. I looked at my hand and saw the blood flowing, it was dripping onto the sidewalk.”
She was then rushed to hospital, where she is still recovering. “It’s a miracle,” she told New York Post.
Her daughter, Carine Scott, was very grateful to find her mother alive: “She survived cancer. She is in remission. She is recovering.”
Ms. Lawson was not the shooter’s target, according to police sources. She would have been targeted at random.
