Israel wants a one-day truce in exchange for the release of more women and children detained in Gaza, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
But the sources told the Broadcasting Corporation that the possibility of a return to calm tonight is slim, and that there is a chance of reaching an agreement within two or four days.
Israel resumed its devastating war on the Gaza Strip yesterday morning, Friday, after a 7-day truce with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) that was reached through the mediation of the State of Qatar in coordination with Egypt and the United States, during which 80 Israelis who were detained in Gaza were released in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners in prisons. The White House said on Friday evening that it continues to work with Israel, Egypt, and Qatar on efforts to restore the humanitarian truce in Gaza, indicating that it has “all expectations of the possibility of achieving another truce.”
The White House held Hamas responsible for the end of the truce, and said that it must “submit a list of hostages that can be exchanged in order to continue the flow of aid” to Gaza.
The Hamas movement held the Israeli occupation responsible for resuming the war on Gaza after it refused during negotiations that took place on Thursday night to deal with all offers to release other detainees.
The movement explained in a statement that it offered to exchange prisoners and the elderly, and also offered to hand over the bodies of detainees who were killed as a result of the Israeli bombing of Gaza, in addition to handing over two detainees, but the occupation refused to deal with all of these offers.
The movement held the US administration and President Joe Biden fully responsible for the continued crimes of the occupation and gave it the green light following the visit of its Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to Israel on Thursday.
Hamas stressed that the Palestinian people and the resistance will fail the goals of the aggression, and will break the will of the occupation army, according to the statement.
