For her first solo interview, Kamala Harris insisted a lot on the question of the economy, a way for her to try to rally a part of the electorate which is not yet convinced, judges a specialist in American politics .

The Democratic candidate had no other choice but to prove that she is capable of defending her plan on the economy, believes Guillaume Lavoie, associate member of the Raoul-Dandurand Chair.

“It’s a recognition in some way that she’s playing catch-up hockey on this topic, because in the end, she can have all the right answers, but if she doesn’t answer the question that interests us, among other things, men, things are not going to go well for his campaign,” he explained.

According to the expert, the vice-president wishes to demonstrate a “moderate and pragmatic approach” to reassure voters, particularly men who are less likely to vote for her, according to polls.

Mme Harris also continued to lead an “almost positive campaign, like (…) we are going through difficult times, but let’s not forget who we are: the United States of America”, unlike his opponent Donald Trump.
