(Washington) A Washington Federal Court of Appeal judged on Wednesday that the government of Donald Trump had the right to make drastic cuts in international aid, returning for reasons of procedure on the previous decision of a court.
Donald Trump had frozen billions of dollars in international aid spending after his return to the White House in January while putting an end to the American Agency for International Development (USAID), a considerable impact initiative on humanitarian programs around the world.
The decision on Wednesday of a court of appeal from the capital on Wednesday came to delay the judgment rendered by a court estimating that the financial aid allocated by the congress should be restored.
According to the court of appeal, the first court should have rejected the request because “the complainants had no interest in acting”, that is to say that they did not have damage which they could claim.
The largest humanitarian agency worldwide, USAID was involved in health and emergency aid programs in around 120 countries.
In July, an international study revealed that the collapse of American funding dedicated to international aid could lead to more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030 among the most vulnerable, including a third of children.
