Two Americans taking their daily walk were injured after being struck by a small plane that crashed on a trail Monday morning in Indiana.
The two victims were walking a trail near the Delaware Airport in Muncie shortly after 10 a.m. when a single-engine Piper plane crashed in their path, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that the pilot who was alone on board was seriously injured and taken to hospital along with one of the two victims.
Deputy Chief Jeff Stanley said it was unclear whether the two victims were struck by the plane as it fell or by its debris when the small plane crashed into the hedge of trees surrounding the trail. pedestrian.
A spokesman for the Delaware County Regional Airport, Tim Baty, maintained that his administration had not received any calls for an emergency landing, the New York Post continued.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, while the National Transportation Safety Board was investigating this first serious accident at the Muncie airport in more than 20 years.
