The latter, who lives in the town of Bradenton, located a few kilometers north of Sarasota County where the hurricane made landfall, came out of his house when the winds that were cracking his residence suddenly stopped.

“I experienced strong winds for two hours,” he described. I just got out because everything stopped. I spoke to my boy. I said “Vincent, there’s no more noise.” We went outside. (…) It felt like it was a beautiful summer evening.”

It was an alert on his phone that prompted him to return to the shelter.

The notice read: “Enter your houses. The violent winds and rains of the hurricane will come towards you,” said Mr. Tremblay.

The Quebecer who lives in Florida understood that the worst was yet to come when the violent winds resumed.

“We got out of sight. I wouldn’t go outside to take videos, just to tell you the difference,” he described.

Daniel Tremblay confided that several of his friends were already reporting flooding in their homes a few minutes after the hurricane made landfall.

“I have a lot of real estate colleagues, and clients (…) who live in Sarasota, and despite the noise and the wind, I am so much safer,” he confided, visibly worried.
