The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, decided to call police around 3 a.m. after Jones refused to leave the scene. The enraged 50-year-old man is believed to have lit the fire at that point, the South Brunswick County Police Department said.
Both parents, the woman and the suspect managed to safely evacuate before the home became engulfed in flames.
Mr Jones was arrested outside. He is charged with aggravated arson and domestic violence.
A neighbor reacted to the tragedy that occurred next to her home.
“(The fire) was pretty big and I was worried it was going to come out of the trees and hit my house. It was crazy,” she told News 12 New Jersey.
