(Washington) Donald Trump declared Friday that he would pardon the former President of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernandez, sentenced in 2024 to 45 years in prison in the United States for drug trafficking, an announcement which comes a few days before the presidential election which is to be held on Sunday in the Central American country.

“I will grant a total and absolute pardon to former President Juan Orlando Hernandez who, according to many people whom I respect enormously, was treated in a very harsh and unfair manner,” the American president wrote on his Truth Social network.

The Republican, who does not hesitate to invite himself into the political life of other countries, called this week to vote for the right-wing candidate Nasry Asfura, from Mr. Orlando Hernandez’s party.
