The authorities claim that a suspect shot firefighters near Alene, in Idaho. The sheriff said that two people had been killed and that the police were continuing to “wipe sniper fire” on Sunday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Bureau of the County Kootenai said that teams had intervened on a fire in Canfield Mountain around 1:30 p.m. and that shots had been reported about half an hour later. It is not known if someone was touched.
Governor Brad Little said “several” firefighters had been attacked.
“This is a direct odious attack against our courageous firefighters,” said Little on the social platform X. “I ask all the inhabitants of Idaho to pray for them and their families while waiting to know more. »»
The bureau of the neighboring County of Soshone said on Facebook that the authorities were “faced with an active shooting situation where the shooter is still on the run.”
The Kootenai County Emergency Management Office asked the population to avoid the area around Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road, about 6.5 km north of the city center of Alene. The fire is still in progress.
