Trey Filter heard someone shout “Get him!” a few seconds before seeing a white flash pass at full speed through a panicked crowd of supporters who were taking cover.

“It must be him,” said Mr. Filter to himself, who confided in New York Post a few hours after the shooting which left one dead and 22 injured.

“I remember when I tackled him thinking, ‘I hope that’s the one they were yelling at me to get,’ because I just went ‘Boom.’ “I really don’t remember seeing it happen,” he says.

In a video that went viral, Mr. Filter can be seen jumping on the fleeing man and tackling him to the ground, preventing him from running into the crowd of confused and terrified onlookers.

The suspected shooter quickly got away, but was immediately tackled by a second Chiefs fan.

Mr. Filter then began to punch the individual in the ribs, while his wife rushed to grab the fugitive’s weapon.

The father of two believes the weapon was an AK-47 assault rifle, but police would not confirm this.

The police arrived in less than a minute and handcuffed the suspected shooter, said Mr. Filter, who stood up to applause from the crowd.
