A major fire has been raging in New Jersey since 5:30 a.m. Friday morning, just south of Newark airport.
It is an industrial complex which is engulfed in flames. Dozens of firefighters were on site to bring the blaze under control following a fourth alarm.
Around 9:30 a.m., the fire was still not under control. Part of the building has already collapsed, according to Elizabeth city officials.
The cause of the fire is unknown. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Authorities are closely monitoring the fire and its plume of smoke due to its proximity to the airport.
For the moment, air traffic is not disrupted by the smoke.
Huge plumes of black smoke covered the sky for miles around, as far as Manhattan Island and the borough of Staten Island.
