A video showing a tiny New York apartment arouses indignation among Internet users on social networks.

Omer Labock, a real estate agent with 136,000 followers on Instagram, offered a virtual tour of this tiny Manhattan studio.

The apartment does not have any essential amenities, such as a bathroom or kitchen. There is just enough space for a bed and a few personal belongings.

“This has to be the smallest apartment in Manhattan,” he says as he films the cramped space, which is listed for $1,620 CAD per month.

“All you have is this,” Labock proclaims, pointing to a cabinet. This is the only piece of furniture in the room.

Despite everything, the real estate agent considers that the asking price is reasonable. In fact, the median price of an apartment in Manhattan is $5,600 per month.

Labock then points down the hallway to show the bathroom. The small room contains a toilet, a shower and a sink.

This apartment is a single-residential occupancy dwelling, a type of housing that consists of a small bedroom and amenities shared by the residents of the same floor. These units have existed for nearly a century in New York and are generally occupied by vulnerable clients.

Many netizens were shocked by the price of the apartment.

“$675 would be exaggerated. Who… would pay $1620 for this half room?” commented a user.

“How is this legal?” another person wrote.

“It should be illegal. Do you have to share a bathroom with an entire floor? Do we have to plan our showers?” said this outraged user.
