The contract between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the issue of oil sparked controversy on social media, between those who consider it a good step, and those who see that oil is the property of the whole people.
“The Kurdish -controlled areas began to supply oil to the central government in Damascus at a rate of 15 thousand barrels per day of oil and a million cubic meters of gas.”
The delivery process took place – the first after the fall of the Bashar al -Assad regime – based on an amendment to an old agreement between the regime of Bashar al -Assad and the “Syrian Democratic Forces”. And the duration of the contract is 3 months in principle, until it is reviewed in a manner consistent with the country’s needs.
The oil fields are concentrated in northeastern Syria, the most important of which are present in Deir Al -Zour and Al -Hasaka and some small oil sites in Raqqa Governorate, and these fields were controlled by the “Islamic State” forces in 2014, then the “Syrian Democratic Forces” was seized in 2017, and they were selling from this Oil for the previous system.
The opinions of singers differed on social media about the contract between the Damascus government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, and this appeared in comments, some of which monitored episode (2025/23/23) of the “Networks” program.
For his part, Abu Diab praised the position of the “Syrian Democratic Forces”, and wrote in his tweet: “May God reward all goodness for this honorable national position, that the export of oil to the Syrian government to the Syrian government is a good step in the right path.”
As for Sarah Al -Khatib, she had a different position, as it came in her tweet: “My uncle, how is a slicing controlling wealth that belongs to the whole people? And we must all revolt against it, as we have gone on to Bashar Al -Makhli and its corruption.”
Sherwan said that “the Arabs and the Kurds are brothers since the ages of … and the gangs of Qasd do not represent the Kurdish people in the eastern cities … We the Kurds are demanding the removal of the Qasd forces backed by America, which are plundering the wealth of Syria in the name of protecting the Kurds.”
Naseem Al -Turkmani sent a message to the Syrians in which he said, “You buy oil today with money, gas, wheat, water and electricity …
It is noteworthy that Syria was producing 400 thousand barrels of oil per day until 2010, then production descended with the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011, and reached 24 thousand barrels per day in 2018.
In order for Syria to return to its previous production, it may need huge investments between 10 and 15 billion dollars and a period of time ranging between 3 and 5 years to rehabilitate the oil sector.
