A homeowner who had hired a team to do renovations on the residence he was subletting in Jacksonville, Florida, made a macabre discovery in his backyard last Tuesday.
The workers were inside when the owner came in to tell them he found rotting toes sticking out of the ground.
A woman who had been hired by the owner and who insisted on remaining anonymous told US media News4JAX that she was “in shock” after hearing the news.
“(The toes) were all black,” she said. I imagine it was due to decomposition.”

“It’s crazy,” she adds. I never would have expected that, especially at a house I work at.”
“I just hope that everything will be resolved (by the investigators),” she hoped.
Moreover, the Jacksonville Police Department has opened an investigation.
The family of a missing member showed up at the crime scene to speak with investigators.
They hoped that it was not the body of their loved one that was found in the floor of this residence.

The owner also commented on this unusual discovery.
“We were looking around the house to find what other work we needed to do,” he told the American media. We installed new windows, redid the kitchen and bathroom.”
“I just want to make sure everything is done in order for the next owner,” he continues.
He also wanted to offer his condolences to the loved ones of the person who was buried in his backyard.
“No family should have to go through this kind of ordeal.”
