The former first lady of the United States was reportedly frustrated by the Biden clan’s treatment of her close friend Kathleen Buhle, who is also the ex-wife of the president’s son, Hunter Biden.
Michelle and Kathleen became great friends during Barack Obama’s presidency. They trained together regularly and often saw each other at the White House.
Buhle and Hunter divorced in 2017, and details of their rocky split resurfaced when she testified at the trial of her ex-husband, who was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm, earlier this month.
However, during the trial, members of the Biden family blamed Hunter’s ex-wife for certain actions alleged against the latter.
Michelle Obama then allegedly claimed privately that the Biden family had wronged her friend, who had had to live with Hunter Biden’s consumption problems and infidelity.
According to people close to the Biden and Obama families, the former first lady was already hesitant to support Joe Biden during his presidential campaign in 2020. She ended up doing so under pressure from the Democratic Party.
Representatives of the current American president assure that the bond is still very strong between the two families.
The two sources who spoke to Axios nevertheless assert that the relationship between the two clans has deteriorated since 2015, when Joe Biden considered launching the race for the presidency, an option disapproved by Barack Obama.
Today, Barack Obama was seen at several fundraisers for Joe Biden’s campaign, but never accompanied by his wife.
A representative for Michelle Obama said she was still friends with Kathleen Buhle and the Bidens, adding that the former first lady supported the campaign of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
