Florida prepares to face one of the worst hurricanes with Milton which has been alternating between category 4 and category 5 for several days. A look back at other hurricanes that have been devastating in the United States.

It will make landfall during the night from Wednesday to Thursday between midnight and 2 a.m. Experts even suggest that Milton would be the worst hurricane of the century.

Damages of US$60 billion are expected, according to an American company.

Other hurricanes that have been devastating in the United States include:

Katrina

The hurricane affected several states in the United States at the end of August 2005.

Katrina was classified as level 5, the worst category for a hurricane.

1,846 people died in one of the most powerful hurricanes in U.S. history.

The damage is estimated at US$108 billion.

Michael

The Category 5 hurricane arrived in the state of Florida in October 2018.

Michael is the strongest hurricane to hit Florida land where nearly 74 deaths were reported by the authorities.

The damage is estimated at US$25 billion.

Camille

Mississippi suffered quite a hurricane in August 1969.

Storm surge, or sea level, rose to 24 feet above normal.

Camille caused damages of US$1.4 billion.

According to the police, 259 people lost their lives.

Andrew

It was in August 1992 that Andrew hit Florida with peak winds of 280 km/h.

Andrew was classified as category 5.

The hurricane caused approximately US$30 billion in damage and is estimated to have caused 30 deaths.

Sandy

In October 2012, the states of New York and New Jersey received visits from Sandy.

The Category 3 storm caused 8.2 million outages.

Nearly US$85 billion is estimated in damages.

It is the largest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic.
