A mother who was wanted by authorities after her 5-year-old son was found dead in a suitcase in 2022 has been arrested in Los Angeles.
The 38-year-old woman, Dejaune Ludie Anderson, has been formally charged with killing her son, Cairo Amar Jordan, reports CNN.
The remains of the latter were found in a suitcase in Indiana in April 2022.
An arrest warrant was issued in October of the same year for the mother who had been wanted since.
It was finally last week, when the authorities received information from a citizen, that the police were able to catch him in Los Angeles.
The suitcase containing his son’s body with a “distinct design from Las Vegas” had been found by a man who was looking for mushrooms in a forest.
The autopsy revealed that the child had died of an electrolyte imbalance which was likely caused by gastroenteritis.
Another woman, Dawn Elaine Coleman, was arrested in the case for conspiracy to commit murder.
She eventually pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, 5 of which have since been suspended.
Ms. Anderson remains detained without the possibility of release on bail while awaiting her trial.
