An American from Missouri is angry after a Sturgeon police officer shot and killed his dog, a 5-year-old shih tzu who was born deaf and became blind, whom he believed to be injured and enraged.
“I called the police and learned that it was indeed my dog who had died after being shot,” Nicholas Hunter told ABC 17, admitting that “it was very shocking and difficult to hear.”
Last week, Teddy’s owner was sitting at a restaurant when he received a call from an acquaintance informing him that his 13-pound dog was wandering into the neighbor’s yard.
While he took the road to return in a hurry, Hunter learned halfway that his pet had been killed by a police officer who thought he was dealing with a stray dog, also sick, according to the American media.
The police officer who tried to capture the running canine thought the dog was injured and that shooting it was the best choice, in the absence of a dog pound, while Nicholas Hunter was fined for “free dog”.
“Believing the dog was seriously injured or infected with rabies, and fearing he might be bitten and infected, the officer felt his only option was to put the animal down,” the Town of Sturgeon said on its page Facebook, thus defending its agent.
Having received a wave of support on social networks, Nicholas Hunter, who does not believe in the rabies theory, since his dog was up to date with vaccinations, is now considering taking the municipality of Sturgeon to court for the tragic death of Teddy .
