An unlicensed truck driver destroyed a church in North Carolina, USA, but the pastor rushed to help the driver and forgave him on the spot.
The event occurred on Saturday when the driver of the truck, for an as yet undetermined reason, drove into the Unida Hispana Pentecostal church, two walls of which were shattered.
Driver Boddy Dean McKinney found himself stuck with his truck through the wall which collapsed under the force of the impact, according to what the “New York Post” reported Tuesday.
Father Bienveido Alegria, who witnessed the collision, intervened quickly to help the 32-year-old truck driver, still in shock, whom he forgave.
“I say, maybe my son or my nephew or someone else,” the cleric told WSOC-TV, who told the 30-year-old after the accident: “I love you.”
Police told local media that the suspect had a revoked license and was driving recklessly before the crash.
Father Alegria and his congregation have launched a fundraising campaign to rebuild the partially demolished church, the New York Post added.
