A young American entrepreneur has drawn the wrath of several Internet users after being photographed working on his laptop during his own wedding reception, report several media.
Last weekend, Casey Mackrell, who is co-founder of the IT company Toughtly, married his fiancée Grace Thoenen. Both are from Florida.
After the ceremony, the bride and groom, their families and friends gathered for a reception where everyone went to have fun on the dance floor… except the groom!
Indeed, Torrey Leonard, Mr. Mackrell’s colleague and co-founder of the company, took a photo of the groom sitting at a table, working on his computer while his guests celebrated.
Mr. Leonard posted the photo on LinkedIn, writing that “Casey has built a reputation as the guy who sits with his laptop when the team goes out to bars.”
“Last week, Thoughtly supported a client who was going online within two weeks. Casey was getting married during this two week period. So here he is, working through his own wedding. Congratulations Casey, now please go get some rest!” he wrote.
Many people, however, did not view the groom’s dedication to his work positively.
“It’s not a source of pride. It’s just sad. This has to be one of the saddest posts I’ve ever seen on LinkedIn,” one user commented.
“This work ethic should not be publicized or applauded,” another person said.
Faced with the avalanche of criticism sparked by its publication, the entrepreneur who published the photo went out to the media to explain that Casey Mackrell was the only one who could resolve the problem that required his intervention. The entrepreneur reportedly only spent three to five minutes at his computer to complete the task during his wedding reception.
According to Torrey Leonard, Mr. Mackrell’s wife would not have been offended by this situation.
“Casey is as devoted to Grace (his companion) as to his company,” he assures.
