Four and a half years after the tragic death of a 5-year-old boy in New Hampshire on Christmas Eve, police have arrested the child’s grandmother, who allegedly killed the young boy, report several media outlets.
Sherry Connor, 61, has been formally charged with murdering her grandson Dennis Vaughan J.ron December 24, 2019 in the city of Laconia. At the time, several family members were gathered to celebrate Christmas in the apartment of the grandmother who had custody of the child.
Police made no arrests in the tragedy, although the grandmother was the main suspect. She said little Dennis died of natural causes.
However, the autopsy revealed that the child had received blows to the head and neck.
An investigation that was unsuccessful
This case caused serious headaches for investigators, who were unable to explain and especially to prove what had happened. The local population became impatient several times as this case dragged on.
The grandmother nevertheless continued to proclaim her innocence.
“Do you really think they wouldn’t have arrested me if I had hurt him that badly?” she told a local newspaper in March 2023.
A citizen even went to the Laconia mayor’s office in October 2023, with a photo of Dennis, to remind him that the child’s murder had still not been solved.
At the time of this tragic death, his mother Danielle was trying to regain custody of her son, whose grandmother was the legal guardian.
Shortly after her boy’s death, the mother said: “I am heartbroken. I am dying inside because I know I have tried everything to get him out of this house, but no one listened to me.”
