(Houston) The president of the largest university in Texas leaves his post on Friday, dismissed after a controversy triggered by conservative elected officials on gender education in a course on children’s literature.

This is a new episode in the footing of US superior establishments by the administration of President Donald Trump who accuses them of propagating the “WOKE” ideology, the well-thought of which he taxes his progressive opponents.

The management of the Texas A&M University, one of the most important in the United States in number of students, praised in a statement on Thursday the action for two years of the outgoing president, Mark Welsh, but announces that he had reached the conclusion that “the time has come to change”, without any other explanation.

Consequently, he will stop performing his duties at the end of the day on Friday.

This eviction is the epilogue of a controversy that broke out following the dissemination of images shot on a hidden camera in which we hear a student calling on the teacher on the “legality” of the content of her course.

When he left the university, Welsh was greeted by many sympathizers who came to support him.

The student invokes in particular the position adopted by the President of the United States according to which “there are only two genres” as well as her own “religious convictions”.

Donald Trump signed in January a decree ordering his administration to “recognize” the existence of only “two sexes” defined at birth, male and female.

The teacher responds to the student that the content of her course is perfectly legal but that she has “the right to get out if that embarrass him”.

The video became viral after an elected representative of the Texan Parliament, Brian Harrison, broadcast it in early September, denouncing a “transgender indoctrination”. He also broadcast an audio recording of a meeting during which the president of the university rejects the student’s request from the teacher, Melissa McCoul.

Under intense political pressure, Mark Welsh finally dismissed this teacher and took disciplinary measures against her hierarchical officials, without succeeding in keeping her post.
