Gaza war prompts global airlines to suspend flights to region | News

Fears of an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, especially with the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, have prompted global airlines to suspend flights to the region or avoid certain airspace.

Below are some of the airlines that have made changes to their services to and from the region:

Air France and KLM

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26.

Air France canceled all flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut on August 25 and 26, and the company resumed service on August 27, according to flight information on its website.

The Franco-Dutch group’s low-cost airline unit Transavia has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until March 31, 2025, and flights to Amman and Beirut until November 3.

Delta Airlines

American company Delta Air Lines has suspended flights between New York and Tel Aviv until October 31.

Air Algerie

The company has suspended its flights to and from Lebanon until further notice.

Lufthansa Group

The German airline group, which also includes Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Condor and Eurowings, has extended its suspension of flights to Tel Aviv and Tehran until September 4, and has suspended flights to Beirut until September 30.

It resumed flights to Amman and Erbil from August 27.

Lufthansa will resume flights to Tel Aviv from September 5, while flights to Beirut will remain suspended until the end of September 30.

Swiss International Air Lines said separately it had suspended flights to Beirut until the end of October.

easyjet

A spokesman for the British low-cost airline said it had suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv in April and would resume them on March 30, 2025.

Air India

Air India has suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv until further notice.

Cathay Pacific

The Hong Kong-based airline has cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv until March 27, 2025.

German Airlines Group suspends flights to Tel Aviv, Tehran and Beirut (AFP)

Air Baltic

The Latvian state-owned carrier has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until September 15, according to the schedule available on its website.

IAG

Spanish low-cost airline Vueling has cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv and Amman until October 26. IAG is Vueling’s parent company.

ETA Airlines

The Italian company has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Tel Aviv until the end of September 4.

Lot

The Polish airline has suspended flights to Tel Aviv until September 4 and to Beirut until September 2.

Ryanair

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, has cancelled flights to and from Tel Aviv until September 30 due to “operational constraints.”

Sun Express

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, said it had suspended flights to Beirut until December 17.

United Airlines

Chicago-based United Airlines has suspended flights to Tel Aviv for the foreseeable future for security reasons.

Lebanese airspace alerts

Britain has advised UK airlines not to enter Lebanese airspace from August 8 to November 4, citing a “potential risk to aviation from military activity”.
