A 33-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio, sprayed two people with an unknown substance on Sunday while shouting “Gas the Jews” outside a Washington synagogue.
Brent Wood approached the victims in front of the Kosher Israel congregation before pulverizing them by angrily spitting the anti-Semitic statement.
No one was injured and it is unclear whether the victims were connected to the synagogue, the New York Post reported Monday.
The suspect was arrested for assault and his vehicle searched as a precaution, but police did not find any weapons or dangerous materials, local police said.
The incident is being investigated by police who may lay hate crime charges, it was said.
This Sunday’s attack comes against a backdrop of rising anti-Semitic acts linked to the ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas.
