The multinational McDonald’s said on Sunday that it had not given its approval to Republican candidate Donald Trump to prepare fries at its restaurant, but that its franchised restaurants can accommodate political figures without asking his permission.

The former US president took the stage on Sunday in a franchise of the popular restaurant which was closed for the occasion in Pennsylvania, where he served a few portions of fries to some of his supporters.
In a communication sent to its employees, of which the American media CNN obtained a copy, the company indicates that it had nothing to do with Trump’s visit to its restaurant nor with the media attention it caused.
Its franchised restaurants can decide to hold such events without needing approval from the parent company.
McDonald’s, however, used this event to promote the prominent place its brand occupies in the lives of millions of Americans.
“As we have seen, our brand has been part of many conversations during this presidential election,” it says. Although we didn’t seek this attention, it speaks to how McDonald’s resonates with so many Americans.”
“We do not endorse any candidate for any election whatsoever and this remains true for the 2024 presidential election,” we continue.
McDonald’s adds that the owner of the franchise in question in Bucks County, near Lancaster, received a request from Donald Trump’s campaign team and agreed to have the event held at his restaurant.
Donald Trump is not the only one to have talked about McDonald’s during the election campaign.
Her presence in this branch in Pennsylvania was closely linked to the fact that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has often referred to the fact that she once worked in a McDonald’s restaurant during her speeches in recent months.
