French Foreign Minister Jean -Noel Barrow for French SUD Radio (SUD) said on Tuesday that Europe will respond to any customs fees imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Trump has pledged to address the long deficit in the trade of goods with the European Union, either through customs duties or increased oil and gas exports.
The French Foreign Minister’s statement on European responses to any customs duties imposed by the Trump administration reflects a possible escalation in economic relations between the two parties. The statement indicates that the European Union may take anti -action to protect its commercial interests.
On the 20th of this month, French Prime Minister Francois Bayro said that France and Europe, as a whole, should stand in the face of President Trump and his policies, otherwise it will face “crushing”.
“The United States decided to start in a form of severe political domination, through the dollar, through its policy of the industrial sector, and through its ability to seize world investments and research,” Bayro told reporters, in a speech on the occasion of the new year in the city of Bo.
“If we do nothing, our fate will be very simple, we will be dominated, we will crush, and we will be marginalized,” he added.
“How do we respond, this is a decision that only falls on the French people and on the shoulders of Europe, because it is clear that without Europe we cannot do anything,” Bayro said.
He also referred to the “power of China”, which exceeded its trade surplus last January, the barrier of a thousand billion dollars.
He said, “France and Europe are facing two challenges today,” the American and Chinese.
