An American woman bought a vase in a thrift store for the modest sum of $5 without ever realizing that this trinket was in fact a real piece of history.
This turned out to be a 2,000 year old Mayan artifact.
“It looked old, but I thought it was maybe 20, 30 years old and some kind of tourist reproduction, so I took it home,” the Washington native told WUSA. -TV, Tuesday.
When Anna Lee Dozier took a work trip to Mexico last January, she spotted items that were similar to her purchase.
Curious, she took it to a professional to investigate.
A month later, she learned it was a Mayan ceremonial urn dating from 200 to 800 AD – a priceless treasure almost 2,000 years old.
“I’m thrilled to have played a part in his story,” she said.
This collector’s item will now end up in a Mexican museum.
Ms. Dozier wanted the artifact to “find its rightful place.”
