A gun left in a Virginia oven caused a major scare for its owner when the weapon activated on its own and fired inside the appliance while it was running.
Chesterfield County firefighters responded to a call Thursday night for a house fire, but when they arrived on scene, they found the gun in question in the oven.
After analyzing the scene, authorities discovered that the rifle had fired five times into the plane, including shattering the front window.
“Someone lit the oven while the rifle was inside, the rifle activated and five rounds were fired,” Chesterfield County Fire and EMS wrote in a Facebook post.

“Please do not store weapons or anything else in your oven,” the fire department added. “Once you put something in there, it’s easy to forget it’s there, which can cause a fire or something even worse when you turn it on.”
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
