A father was killed by his neighbor who was frustrated to see his daughter walking on his mulch last Saturday in Detroit, several American media reported.
Nathan Morris was walking in the Canton neighborhood with his family when one of his children touched the doormat on the front of a neighbor’s home, Michigan Republican House Committee Chairwoman Hima Kolanagireddy told X.
Her owner, Devereaux Christopher Johnson, argued with Mr Morris, who was upset by the girl’s actions.
After some insults, the 47-year-old man shot the unarmed victim several times.
“The neighbour pulled out a gun and started threatening the family. Nathan sent his family home and said he would try to defuse the situation, but he was shot and killed,” Kolanagireddy said.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital later in the day. The father is survived by his wife and two daughters, ages five and two. He was an engineer at Ford and was involved in the Republican Party in Michigan, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
As police surrounded Mr. Johnson’s home, he emerged from the residence repeating the words “Praise be to God Almighty.”
Canton Township Police
He was charged with first-degree murder.
He is being held without parole.
This is not his first arrest, according to the American media.
The man is said to have previously attacked neighbours and police officers.
He has also been charged with criminal sexual conduct since the 1990s.
