A video shared by multimillionaire Elon Musk on the X platform caused a big reaction on Monday when we can see a humanoid robot folding a sweater with human dexterity.

“Optimus folds a shirt,” shared the big boss of Tesla on what reported The Independent Tuesday.

The publication received a wave of applause from several Internet users who particularly highlighted the “natural” and “rapid” movements of the robot, in the comments.

Except that in the hour following the sharing of the video, which had already reached more than 45.8 million views in less than 24 hours, the multi-billionaire provided important clarification as to his true abilities.

“Important note: Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but will certainly be able to do it completely autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (without a table attached to the floor and without a box containing only a sweater),” -he clarified.

Indeed, Internet users have pointed out that it is possible to see a gloved hand in the corner of the video, which seems to imitate the movements of the robot, which suggests that it would be operated remotely.

“Basically this is exactly the same thing that remote surgical ‘robots’ have been working for decades,” said one user of Threads, X’s main competitor owned by Meta.

But progress remains impressive, as Elon Musk ultimately hopes that the “autonomous, dual-pedal, general-purpose humanoid” robot will be “capable of performing dangerous, repetitive or boring tasks” and replace humans on this scale. .

“The goal is for them to serve millions of households, such as cooking, mowing lawns and caring for the elderly,” he said when unveiling the prototype in 2022, according to The Independent.
