Various media outlets, citing the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, reported that the explosion was caused by a damaged underground gas line.
Aerial footage later showed smoke rising from the site.
Fire officials said two of the three properties were residential and one appeared to be used as a workshop. All six injured people were transported to nearby hospitals.
