(Washington) The Donald Trump Department of Justice announced on Tuesday to turn to Ghislaine Maxwell, ex-partner of Jeffrey Epstein now in prison, to try to know more about this case which placed the American president in turmoil.
Donald Trump and his government seek to respond to the anger of a part of his base, which for two weeks reproached him for a lack of transparency in this sensitive case.
“For the first time, the Department of Justice is aimed at Ghislaine Maxwell to ask him: what do you know?” “Wrote on X Todd Blanche, the number two in the department.
Ghislaine Maxwell, the ex-partner and former Epstein collaborator, was sentenced in 2022 to 20 years in prison for sexual trafficking, accused of having been the “tout” of Jeffrey Epstein by recruiting between 1994 and 2004 minor girls to exploit them sexually.
His lawyer, David Oscar Markus, confirmed on X being in contact with the department, adding that “Ghislaine will always testify sincerely”.
The Jeffrey Epstein affair, who died in a cell in 2019 before his trial for sexual crimes, re -emerged and took a political turning point on July 7.
That day, the American government assured that there was no evidence of the existence of a secret list of customers of this friend of the stars and powerful, of which Donald Trump was close.
This provoked the anger of a part of the president’s “Maga” movement, accusing him of denying his promises of transparency. Many of them think that Jeffrey Epstein’s death in prison made it possible to prevent revelations involving leading personalities.
“If Ghislaine Maxwell has information on anyone who has committed crimes or offenses on victims, the FBI and the Department of Justice will listen to what she has to say,” added Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer.
He assures that he himself meets the former worldly, daughter of the late press magnate Robert Maxwell, “in the coming days”.
