(Washington) The American Democrats maintain the pressure on Donald Trump in the case of the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday, invoking obscure procedure to force the government to publish the investigation documents associated with this sulfurous file for the president.
For almost a month, Donald Trump has not managed to get out of this case which returned to the center of public attention with the publication of a note by his administration, announcing that no new investigation would be launched around the financial traffic network of the financier, who died in prison in 2019 before his trial for sexual crimes.
The death of Jeffrey Epstein, found hanged in his cell, has fueled countless conspiracy theories – particularly within the “Maga” movement of Donald Trump – according to which he was murdered to prevent revelations on leading personalities.
The note published by the Trump administration caused anger among supporters of the Republican President, who accuse him of returning to his promises of transparency.
Since then, the Democratic opposition has grown to use this indignation to its advantage, by publicly calling for the publication of documents in the file.
“Today, the Democrats in the Senate take on additional measures to try to reveal the truth about Epstein documents,” the chief of the Democrat minority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer on Wednesday.
The New York senator announced that they would invoke a procedure rarely used, “the rule of five”, in order to “force the Department of Justice to publish Epstein documents in their entirety”.
This rule provides that when five senators from a certain commission call on the executive to publish investigation documents, the latter “must bend at this request,” according to Chuck Schumer.
“We expect the Trump administration to provide these documents by August 15,” he said.
Tuesday, Donald Trump revived the debates on the nature of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, appears like him in New York Jet-Set life in the 1990s-2000, providing a new version of their rupture in the 2000s. Above the Air Force presidential plane, the republican billionaire said that the dispute focused on employees of his club Mar-A-Lago, Florida, whom Jeffrey Epstein would have “taken”.
The White House so far assured Donald Trump had hunted his club’s financier about twenty years ago, after being very close, for having “behaved like a twisted”.
The American media evokes for their part a rivalry on the acquisition of a real estate property in Florida.
