(Washington) Donald Trump once again accused his Democratic opponents on Friday of promoting the “Epstein deception”, while parliamentarians must vote next week on the publication of documents concerning this sex offender.
Jeffrey Epstein, who like the American president was a figure in New York social life, “was a Democrat, he is the Democrats’ problem, not the Republicans’ problem,” wrote the 79-year-old billionaire on his Truth Social network.
“Some weak Republicans have fallen into the clutches (of the Democrats) because they are soft and stupid,” he attacked.
Donald Trump is referring to a few figures in his party, sometimes loyalists from the start, who insist that the Department of Justice publish the documents in its possession regarding this very sensitive political-judicial affair.
He had promised major revelations during his campaign on this scandal, which very strongly mobilized his base. Since his return to power in January, he has repeated that the Epstein affair is in reality fabricated.
The Republican President of the House of Representatives, which with the Senate makes up the American Congress, wants to organize a vote on the subject next week.
Currently, the American press estimates that a large number of Republicans could vote in favor of a text calling for the publication of documents from the Department of Justice, despite the reluctance of the White House.
The bill in question is supported by a Republican elected official and a Democratic elected official.
Emails
With the help of his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, acting as a tout, Epstein brought minors to his residences, particularly in New York and Florida, to sexually assault them under the pretext of massages.
His death in prison in 2019 and the delays in making investigative documents concerning him public have fueled speculation with conspiratorial overtones.
The financier committed suicide in his cell before his scheduled trial, according to US authorities. Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sexual exploitation.
Some Americans and figures of the radical right believe that Epstein was in fact assassinated to prevent him from implicating prominent figures who would have benefited from his network of sexual exploitation of young girls.
The affair was relaunched this week by the publication of emails from the New York financier, a socialite with a particularly full address book.
Donald Trump “knew about the girls” the American sex offender abused and even “spent several hours” with one of them, say emails from Jeffrey Epstein, revealed by Democratic parliamentarians.
The American president has always denied being aware of the sexual exploitation of minors by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, whom he dated before falling out with them.
