(Washington) Bill and Hillary Clinton will testify before an American parliamentary commission of inquiry into the Epstein affair, the spokesperson for the former Democratic president announced on Monday, while the couple was the subject of an obstruction procedure in Congress for their refusal until then to appear.

“They negotiated in good faith, you didn’t. They told you under oath what they knew, but you don’t care,” spokesperson Angel Urena said on
“The former president and the former secretary of state will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone,” the spokesperson added.
Before the press release, the House Rules Committee was preparing to approve the organization of a vote before all the deputies on two resolutions, which if adopted, would have recommended to the Department of Justice to initiate proceedings against the former Democratic president (1993-2001) and the former head of American diplomacy (2009-2013).
It was not immediately clear whether the committee would still vote to advance these resolutions for adoption in the chamber this week.
If these recommendations for prosecution were adopted, a formal indictment would have to be initiated by the Department of Justice, headed by Pam Bondi, a Donald Trump loyalist.

Bill and Hillary Clinton, who denounce a procedure with purely political motivations, would then face up to 12 months in prison.
” Consequences ”
The couple had been summoned several times by a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the state’s management of the Epstein affair, due to past ties of friendship between the former president and the financier.
A figure of the New York jet set in the 1990s and 2000s, Jeffrey Epstein was accused of having sexually exploited more than a thousand young women, including minors.
He was found hanged in his New York cell in 2019 before his trial for sex crimes. His death has fueled countless conspiracy theories that he was murdered to protect high-profile figures.
Bill Clinton, who traveled several times aboard his private jet and was photographed numerous times in his company, claimed in 2019 to have not spoken to Jeffrey Epstein for more than a decade.

The ex-president has also always denied having any knowledge of his crimes and is not worried by the justice system regarding his relationship with the sex criminal.
“No one, whether a former president or an ordinary citizen, can deliberately disregard a subpoena properly issued by Congress without consequences,” said Republican elected official James Comer, head of this commission of inquiry, on Monday before the announcement by Bill Clinton’s spokesperson.
During his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump said he agreed to make the file public. But the Republican has been reluctant to publish it since his return to power and has been accused even by his supporters of a lack of transparency.
On Friday, the Department of Justice published a mass of additional documents concerning Jeffrey Epstein, claiming to comply with a law promulgated last November.
