(Washington) Bill and Hillary Clinton, who are to be questioned separately on the Epstein affair at the end of February by a committee of the American Congress, have called for public hearings, saying they want to avoid being exploited by the Republicans.

The commission, whose work takes place behind closed doors, wishes to hear the former Democratic president because of his friendly ties with the sex criminal, and the former head of American diplomacy for what she knows about these links between her husband and the financier who died in prison in 2019.

“Let’s stop playing games and do this the right way: with a public hearing,” the former president wrote on X on Friday.

Hillary Clinton said she has already told the Republican-led commission “what we know.” “If you want this fight (…), let’s do it in public,” she said Thursday.

While they had refused to appear for several months, the couple made a change of heart on Monday, shortly before a vote in the House of Representatives on an obstruction procedure in Congress against them. Prosecution would then have been recommended to the Department of Justice, and the couple would have faced up to a year in prison.

The former head of American diplomacy will testify on February 26, while the former Democratic president (1993-2001) will be heard on February 27.

Bill Clinton, who traveled several times aboard Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet and was photographed numerous times in his company, claimed in 2019 that he had not spoken to him for more than a decade.

The ex-president has also always denied having any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and is not worried by the courts regarding his relationship with him.

Hillary Clinton said she had no significant interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, never flew on his plane and never visited his island.

The US Justice Department has latest released a massive new set of documents from the Epstein dossier: more than three million documents, photos and videos related to its investigation into the sex criminal who died in 2019 in custody, a death ruled a suicide.

The mere mention of a person’s name in the Epstein file does not imply any a priori wrongdoing on the part of that person. But the documents made public show the links between Jeffrey Epstein or his entourage and certain personalities who often minimized, or even denied, the existence of such reports.
