Future President Donald Trump continued his appointments Wednesday by selecting former Republican congressman Pete Hoesktra as Canadian ambassador.
“Pete is very well respected in the incredible state of Michigan – a state we won easily,” Donald Trump wrote to announce this appointment in his social network Truth Social.

The Republican bragged about putting “trade with Mexico and Canada on equal footing for our wonderful farmers and working families.”
He also called the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) the “worst” treaty “in the history of the United States.”
Mr Hoesktra was the US ambassador to the Netherlands during Mr Trump’s first term. He represented the state of Michigan in the 2nd U.S. Congressional District for approximately 20 years.
He will replace David L. Cohen in this position. The latter has occupied it since the arrival of Joe Biden at the White House in 2021.
