Despite a difficult debate, Donald Trump and his troops are in the strongest position in the race, even if they have lost the advantage they held when they faced Joe Biden.
There are and will be few major movements in voting intentions, but the Democrat is making good progress. Republican strategists would like to regain the momentum.
A month ago I wrote that Republicans needed to rethink their strategy. It seems that their candidate is not capable of doing so at the moment.
Trump is his own worst enemy
While many observers were impressed by Kamala Harris’ performance on Tuesday, I am among those who believe that her opponent’s failings are largely responsible for her success.
The Democrat’s strategy was obvious: be well prepared and show confidence, but above all exploit Donald Trump’s impulsiveness and pride. The trap set was obvious and the barbs had immediate effects.
It was not so much the Republican’s repeated lies that caught the attention, but rather the utterly unhinged nature of his statements, his pouting face and his angry tone.
We won’t soon forget this story of illegal immigrants eating Springfield’s pets or these abortions performed until the end of the ninth month… Or after!
The reactions after the debate were immediate, with Trump supporters claiming a conspiracy by ABC and its moderators, while Kamala Harris supporters were ecstatic. Regardless, the focus is elsewhere.
Halting Harris’ momentum
Even though the numbers favoring her are almost always within the margin of error, Kamala Harris has more than closed the gap between her and Donald Trump, both nationally and in a majority of swing states.
Just as important for Harris and Trump, the Democrat is breaking records for financial contributions and welcoming a large number of new donors. She has energized the Democratic base.
Ultimately, more and more people are registering to vote because they want to vote for her. In fact, if there is an effect in support of Taylor Swift, this is where it will be felt the most.
Despite all the positive things I see in Kamala Harris’ campaign, she is failing to distance herself from her opponent.
If Donald Trump could focus on his most popular themes and avoid his many deviations, he would slow down Kamala Harris’ momentum.
Many Republican lawmakers and party pollsters noted Trump’s poor performance on Tuesday, but they still can’t get him to listen to reason.

Kamala Harris appeared in control and relaxed, while Donald Trump appeared tense and upset.
Quote of the week
“Otherwise, Putin would now be sitting in Kyiv, with his eyes fixed on the rest of Europe. You would quickly give up, as a favor to him, entertaining the idea that this is a friendship with someone who is considered a dictator. He would eat you for breakfast.”
One of the attacks felt by Kamala Harris who thus sought to destabilize her opponent by hurting his pride.
The lie detector
“In Springfield, they eat dogs. They eat cats. They eat the pets of the people in the city. This is happening in our country and it’s a disgrace!”
Without any verification, the Republican candidate picked up a false information that his running mate and an influencer, Laura Loomer, helped to spread. Bryan Heck, the city manager, denied this claim on Wednesday. Nearly 20,000 Haitian immigrants have recently arrived in Springfield, but they entered the country legally and help to compensate for the lack of staff at local businesses.
The number of the week: 5
According to a poll published Friday (Morning Consult), Kamala Harris slightly increases her lead over Donald Trump after her performance during the debate. The Democratic candidate would garner 50% of support against 45% for the Republican. Information that should worry Republican strategists, this result is essentially attributable to a loss of support for Donald Trump rather than a clear progression of the Democrat.
