A 4-year-old dog was abandoned on the side of a “dangerous” and busy New York highway by her owners who tied her to a pole with a note next to her.

Motorists who discovered the canine tied up on Long Island’s Southern State Parkway around 5:30 a.m. Monday called police, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

“This is Roxi, a trained American bull mastiff,” reads the note left next to the dog, adding: “She is four years old. She has been fed and given a flea bath, she may still have problems with them. Please make sure she gets good care.”

The animal was picked up by police officers who took her to an animal shelter in Hampstead for adoption, which is already attracting a lot of interest from people who have signed up in the hope of adopting Roxi.

“I’ll tell you right now. We’ve probably had 25 people travel from the metropolitan area to sign up just to start the evaluation process,” Supervisor Don Clavin said at a news conference Wednesday.
