Doctors Without Borders said yesterday, Thursday, that Palestinian shooting victims in the currently occupied West Bank suffer more injuries to the head and body than to the extremities of the body, at a time when confrontations between occupation soldiers and Palestinians are escalating in areas of the West Bank.

The head of the international charitable organization, Christos Christou, said that since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, a “clear change” has been observed in the injuries seen by the organization’s employees in hospitals in the West Bank.

“The type of injuries they treat has completely changed,” Christo, who recently returned from the West Bank, told reporters at the headquarters of Doctors Without Borders in Geneva.

He added that the shooting mechanism was different. “In the past, they targeted the limbs, but now the injuries resulting from shooting target the abdomen, torso, and head area. This is a clear change.”

He stressed that when this change in infections occurs, it means “more and more deaths.” Christo called for greater international attention to the West Bank.

Block and close

During an Israeli military incursion into the Jenin refugee camp – which Christo witnessed – ambulances were prevented from reaching patients and the hospital entrance was closed.

This official expressed a feeling of despair among those infected in hospitals, as “there is nothing worse for a doctor than his inability to reach patients.”

The West Bank witnesses daily raids and confrontations between Palestinians and the occupation forces, which carry out storming campaigns into villages and towns throughout the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, accompanied by confrontations and arrests of Palestinians, bringing the total number of detainees to about 3,600 since last October 7.

The number of Palestinians martyred by Israeli occupation bullets in the West Bank has risen to 473 since the beginning of this year, including 265 martyrs since last October 7.

This comes as the Israeli occupation army launches an aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of more than 16,000 Palestinians and more than 43,000 wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to massive destruction of infrastructure and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, according to official Palestinian sources.
