(Washington) A Trump administration official called on “white men” who believe they are victims of discrimination at work to file a request for compensation from a federal agency founded in the 1960s to fight the segregation of African-Americans.

“Are you a white man who has experienced discrimination at work because of your gender or race? You may have the right to seek compensation,” explains Andrea Lucas, the president of this agency, in a video published Wednesday on X and shared by vice-president JD Vance.

Created by the major civil rights law of 1964, the federal agency responsible for enforcing laws against discrimination in the workplace (EEOC) now highlights, on its website, its support for those who say they are victims of positive or “anti-American” discrimination.

“The EEOC is committed to identifying, combating and eliminating all forms of discrimination based on race and sex, including against white men, as applicants and employees,” adds its president.

Since his return to the presidency in January, Donald Trump has waged a political battle with his government to dismantle affirmative action practices, from university campuses to businesses to the state.

Often referred to by the acronym DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion), these practices initially put in place to support minorities who are victims of inequality are in the sights of a political movement on the offensive on everything it considers “woke”.

JD Vance, a leading figure in this movement, published an article on X on Wednesday in which a Hollywood screenwriter recounts having been refused participation in a project because he is a young white man. The DEI movement “was a deliberate project of discrimination, especially against white men,” the American vice-president wrote in comment.

“You are absolutely right,” Andrea Lucas responded on

According to a University of Massachusetts study, the share of African-American employees who file complaints with the EEOC is 195 times higher than for white employees.

In 2020 in the United States, the average wealth of white households was approximately 10 times higher than that of an African-American household, according to census data analyzed by the Pew Research center.
