The glove, discovered in a roadside field, was sent for DNA testing. The FBI said in a statement that it received preliminary results on Saturday and was awaiting official confirmation. The breakthrough comes as law enforcement collects more potential evidence as the search for Guthrie’s mother enters its third week. Authorities previously said they had not identified a suspect.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Arizona on January 31 and was reported missing the next day. Authorities say they found his blood on the porch. Alleged ransom demands were sent to the media, but both payment deadlines have passed.
The discovery came to light days after investigators released surveillance videos showing a masked person outside Ms. Guthrie’s front door. A camera installed under the porch captured someone wearing a backpack, ski mask, long pants, jacket and gloves.
On Thursday, the FBI named the person a suspect. He described her as a man about 1.75 meters tall, of medium build. The agency said he was carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.
