Democrats are meeting to hold their convention where Kamala Harris will be officially nominated as the candidate, an event that is being held under the sign of enthusiasm, but above all as a reminder to not make the mistakes of 2016.
“So far, we can say that the Democrats have done flawlessly. This is no small feat for a party that is used to tearing each other apart in public,” acknowledged Luc Laliberté, a specialist in American politics, just before the opening of the convention.
The Democrats have not held back and intend to bring out the party’s leading lights to rally the troops, starting with Joe Biden, but also Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, who will be able to remind people of the “fierce struggle” that remains to be waged.
“We need a reminder, beyond the emotion, we have work to do. I think Hillary Clinton would be a good candidate to give this warning,” explained Mr. Laliberté in an interview with LCN on Monday.
Kamala Harris’ party will also have the challenge of “showing undecided voters, independents, disappointed Republicans that we can trust” the duo she forms with Tim Walz.
The current vice-president will especially have to show that she can stand up to Donald Trump, with whom she has not yet debated.
“There are a series of traps and hurdles that await in a race, there are a series of tests,” Mr. Laliberté recalled.
