Taylor Swift and Beyoncé may not have graced the stage at Chicago’s United Center as expected for the final day of the Democratic convention Thursday night, but a slew of stars filled in for their absence throughout the week.
On Thursday, singer P!nk was probably the one who attracted the most attention. Her participation at the convention had already been announced, but she surprised by delivering an acoustic version of her big hit What About Us accompanied by her daughter, Willow, and a choir.

Music was everywhere during the week of presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. In addition to performances by well-known artists, many of the greatest American music hits were heard between impassioned speeches by the Democratic Party leaders. Also in attendance Thursday was the country group The Chicks, popularized during the George W. Bush era for their opposition to the Iraq War. Well-known in the United States and Australia, the trio of women demonstrated their symbiosis by adding their harmonies to the American national anthem.

Additionally, during the week, each U.S. state was featured with a song that adequately represented that state. A wide range of artists were featured, including Michael Jackson (Indiana), Sabrina Carpenter (Guam), Taylor Swift (Rhode Island) and Journey (New Hampshire).
Georgia, meanwhile, got a special presentation, as Atlanta native Lil Jon appeared in the middle of the room to get the audience jumping out of their seats. Energetic, he sang Turn Down for What And Get Low in the den of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Accompanied by Sheila E., singer John Legend also expressed his support for the Democratic Party on Wednesday. They honored the memory of Minnesota’s greatest artist, Prince, by offering their version of Let’s Go Crazyfrom the iconic album Purple Rain.
Taylor and Beyoncé, hidden cards
Speculation was rife that Beyoncé and Taylor Swift would pledge allegiance to the Democratic Party during the week, whether in speeches or in song. They were rather conspicuous by their absence, although it was apparently a strategic decision. Regarding Taylor Swift, Hollywood journalist Henry Arnaud estimated on TVA that “she should not declare herself for a few weeks in order to continue to promote Kamala Harris’ candidacy. It seems that we are saving the global star practically for the last moment.”
